Allergy Testing
Allergy testing helps determine if you’re reacting to specific substances. A negative test means there were no skin changes after exposure to the allergen, typically indicating you’re not allergic. However, in rare cases, you may still be allergic despite a negative result.
A positive test shows your skin reacted to a substance, suggesting your symptoms may be due to that allergen. A stronger reaction often indicates greater sensitivity. It’s also possible to test positive without experiencing real-life symptoms.
Skin Prick Test
This test identifies immediate allergic reactions to environmental or food allergens. Small amounts of suspected allergens are applied to the skin—usually the forearm, upper arm, or back—and then pricked to allow exposure beneath the surface. Reactions such as redness or swelling typically appear within 20–25 minutes.
